7 Dollar Popcorn Presents The 7 Dollar Popcorn FILMuary Extravaganza: 28 Days of Movie Mayhem Day 2: Thank You For Smoking.

7 Dollar Popcorn Presents The 7 Dollar Popcorn FILMuary Extravaganza: 28 Days of Movie Mayhem Day 2's movie was Thank You For Smoking.

The first thing I noticed about this movie...remember Dick from High Fidelity? He's in it! I love that guy! Not only that, the kid from UltraViolet and X-men 3 is in it. I hated those movies! However...I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!

It's the story of Nick Naylor, the chief lobbyist for the tobacco industry. He's a talker. The kind of guy who could sell the Devil a pair of mittens and a sweater for those cold Hell nights. It's his story. It's about his life, and he narrates it. The story itself follows Nick teaching his son how to argue and taking him to California in an effort to get cigarettes featured prominently in movies. What's great is that almost everyone he meets is just like him, a talker.

Everyone has their own motive. For some, it's money, for others it's respect. The reporter is after a story. The Senator wants to take down Big Tobacco. And each of them is rather morally flexible. They know what they're doing. They know that their product kills people. But, that's kind of beside the point.

The movie was directed by Jason Reitman, who is the son of Ivan Reitman. Which is really pretty irrelevant, you know? The movie shines. The story flows amazingly well. The acting is great. Every character feels real. Easily one of the funniest movies I've seen in a long time. Let's give it 8 and a half senate hearings out of 10!
