31 movies I would recommend for someone's month long Halloween movie marathon...now THAT'S an idea...

The other day, in my comments, I received a comment that I wasn't sure what to do with. No, not a comment, an invitation. It was from one Ed Hardy, Jr of Shoot the Projectionist and it read:

Hey there! I just wanted to drop you a line to invite you to participate in the 31 GREATEST HORROR FILMS survey we have going on over at Shoot the Projectionist. Here's a link to the original announcement:

http://shoottheprojectionist.blogspot.com/2007/09/31-greatest-horror-films-survey.html

Thanks.
Naturally my first reaction was one of shock. I don't know this guy, yet here he is, asking me to join in. It's kind of a neat feeling.

So, I read a little more...

I hereby announce the 31 Greatest Horror Films , a survey to be compiled throughout Shocktober! and published on Halloween. I am inviting, inducing—hell, just plain cajoling—you to submit a list of the 31 Greatest Horror Films according to you. Whether that means your 31 favorite scary movies or the 31 films you feel are the most influential or original, well… that’s sort of up to you. I suppose when I do my list I’ll include the 31 horror films that I feel are the most worthy for discussion, because that’s usually the defining factor of whether I care about a film or not. And, of course, the entire reason I’m picking the number 31 instead of some other arbitrary number like 25, 50 or 100 is that there are 31 days in Shocktober!, so if you would like to think of your list as the perfect month-long horror movie marathon, I encourage you to do so. Think of it however you must, as long as you submit a list!
So THAT'S the catch. I have to make a list. A list of 31 movies. Horror movies at that! What do I know about horror movies? Oh yeah, a little bit. For me to make a list of the movies that I've found to be scary though...well, we're talking a short fucking list. The Descent for sure. In the Mouth of Madness. The Thing. I'm sure there's a couple others, but, well, not another 28! However, what I did like was
so if you would like to think of your list as the perfect month-long horror movie marathon, I encourage you to do so
Yeah. Now we're talking. I could do that. What would be the 31 movies I would choose to watch for a fictional, month long Halloween marathon...for someone else. See that. If I were going to do a marathon like that, I wouldn't want to do 31 days of movies I've seen. But trying to do a list of 31 movies I would suggest for someone else's marathon, well, that's a fun kind of idea.

31 movies I would recommend for someone's month long Halloween movie marathon. Ed, I'll get the list to you next week, and I'll post it here before Oct 1st.

NOTE:Ed has corrected me, the official title is 31 FLICKS THAT GIVE YOU THE WILLIES

Taking a break from all your worries sure would help a lot

Alright, I have good news and bad news. The good news? Well, I still remember most of the lyrics to the Cheers theme song. After all these years! Pretty sweet, right? Hell yeah.

The bad news is that I'm about to take off for a couple weeks, and my irregular posting will probably be...well, even less regular. I want to get something up here this week, and since I'll have interweb access in Prescott, AZ...well, I might be able to come up with something. After that though, the only guarantee is next Monday's Final Girl Film Club entry. You better fucking believe I'll be down for that one! After that though, it's a week without a computer as I head off into the horizon on a sunny family vacation (how the hell did I let that happen?) in the Caribbean where I will see me some fucking pyramids, yo! That will accomplish life goal #3421!

The good news is that I'm gearing up for Shark Week when I get home. That's right! A week of shark movies baby! Probably. There may be some other aquatic animals that work their way in, but I assure you there will be carnage. And blood. And teeth. Hey! I wonder if I can find a shark's tooth on my vacation!

Wish me luck, I'm going to be doing some time traveling tomorrow!

Giant Monsters All Out Attack Week

I like doing these theme weeks. For some reason, I just get a huge kick out of them.

And, you know what, there are only a few things that I enjoy more than watching giant monsters level cities. Which is why I've been looking forward to this particular week. I had the idea over the winter to do an entire week of giant monster movies. That's right, GIANT monsters. Not just big monsters, GIANT. I'm talking creatures that could destroy a city, not a breadbox.

It's going to be a fun week I think, full of all sorts of monsters. Come back tomorrow when we (as in me) kick it off!

dreamrot's favorite movies week

I'm going to be honest with you. I started watching movies quite some time before I started blogging. YEARS before I started blogging. Before there was an interweb. Before I could drive. Before I could write. Back before I even knew what good and bad movies were (growing up I loved Jim Belushi in K-9, what was wrong with me?).

I thought to myself a few weeks ago, in the midst of FILMuary, "Self, you know what would be fun?"

"No, me, what would be fun?"

"Watching new stuff is great and all, self..."

"It sure is!" I'm in the habit of interrupting myself.

"Like I was saying, it's great, but do you know what might be fun too?"

"Making popsicles?"

"Well, of course. But I'm thinking maybe more movie related. Self, what if we take a week and look at some of our favorite movies!"

"Oh my god, me, that's fucking amazing!"

"I know. So, we'll spend a week doing it and then, down the road, when we're bored or just lazy we can ADD TO THE LIST!"

"Can we call it 'dreamrot's favorite movies week'? Can we? Can we? PLEEEEEAAAAASE?"

"Yeah, do whatever the fuck you want."

And thus an idea was born.

Hang out with me this week and we'll check out some of my favorite movies to watch when I don't want to watch something new! You can join in too! Tell me what you think of my favorites. Do you love them too? Do you hate them? It's okay if you do. I won't hold it against you I promise.

Letting the cat out of the proverbial bag.

You may remember a couple weeks ago that I hinted at something amazing. Something that wasn't just amazing, something amazing for February. Well, I guess that in lieu of anything to really talk about, I'm going to let you in on the secret I've been hiding from you for almost a month now.

Are you ready?

I, your humble blogger, dreamrot, am proud to announce the February 2007 will officially be the 7 Dollar Popcorn FILMuary Extravaganza: 28 Days of Movie Mayhem.

What does this mean for me, the writer? It means that I will endeavor to watch 28 movies in February. Not just that, but 28 movies that I have not already seen. Not just watch 28 new-to-me movies, but I am also going to make 28 entries here, at 7dp, about those 28 movies.

What does this mean for you the reader? Probably not much. Just that you'll be getting 28 things to read with the first one due on Thursday.

Then there's the last question... Why am I doing this? Well, I still feel bad about letting this go to the wayside in the second half of last year, so it's kind of a bit of restitution. Also, I've never done any sort of designated event, and it's always fun to try something new. Also, I hate myself, and figure making myself watch 28 movies that I'll be lucky to enjoy half of should be an interesting experiment.

So, I'll see you on Thursday for Day 1!
