Here we are, in the waning days of 2015 and everyone is looking back on the year that was. It's a natural time to look back and remember some of my favorite posts of 2015. Lets go with an arbitrary number like...I don't know, 3?

I wanted to leave GoDaddy anyways

There's no one to blame but myself.

You may have noticed that 7dollarpopcorn.com no longer gets you here. Apparently, everything went to shit with my account at GoDaddy and since the site was registered to an email I rarely check...I never got the notification that there was an issue.

Considering how little I do here any more, it's hard to say that the loss of the custom domain will hurt the blog itself much. Hell, I've done more damage over the past couple years than changing the URL ever could. No, the worst part is everything I had registered with an email linked to that domain. That's going to be something that takes a while to sort out. 

Like I said, it's all my fault. So, for now (and probably the foreseeable future) 7 Dollar Popcorn will be located back here at 7dp.blogspot.com (like it used to be).

5 years and I'm still here

Imagine for a moment that it's three days ago. January 10th. Do you know what January 10th was? This is a fairly serious question. I don't expect you to know the answer, don't worry.

January 10th was 7dp's 5th birthday!

Wow. Thanks, Al. That's really nice of you.

Wow. All this time away and you can't even come up with new material. Thanks for stopping by though, Al. It was good seeing you. Kind of.

It's weird to think about, isn't it? 5 years. That's almost forever in internet time. Here I am though, still going. Sure, I'm not as prolific as I used to be. I can't imagine something like FILMuary happening again (though it was an amazing amount of fun! Seriously. 28 movies in 28 days and across multiple states!), but I'm still sad I didn't do Shark Week last year. I've participated in a few blogathons and even switched blogs with 1416 and Counting for a day (THAT was fun. I want to do something like that again.)

And, last year, despite the record low number of postings (and even lower number of actual movie related content), I thought was a fun year. I added the Song of the Day to the rotating list of infrequent features. There was the previously mentioned blog-switcheroo. I even proved to everyone that I can't draw! And on top of all that, I was in a fucking movie. Well, not a FUCKING movie. A horror movie! Dead Woods.

So what does 2011 hold? I don't know. I have some ideas. I want to bring Shark Week back for sure. I've been considering talking about beer and the brewing of more often (it's an interesting subject to me), this may lead to sort of a Brew & View type feature, but we'll see what happens. There will probably be more whoring for Dead Woods, especially once the DVD is done. I may even try to give away a few copies. Basically, I expect 2011 to be a lot like 2010. A few reviews, a lot of nonsense and generally expanding the focus some more.

Oh, and more shitty movies!

I have no idea when it happened, but I no longer had links to anybody. I don't remember getting rid of them. Though, that's not saying much, my memory is far from perfect. Still, I would expect to have remembered something like that.

Oh well. I added links to some of the ones I used to, the ones I remembered. And some others that I never had before.

It's still weird though.

A special announcement from 7dp

Thanks for joining me here on a Saturday of all days. I almost never post anything on the weekends. It's my time off. I have to make an exception today though. You see, it's January 10th, and that means that for the first time, I actually remembered it was 7dp's birthday ON TIME (instead of days or weeks later)!

 

Hey, thanks Al. I really appreciate it. Can you believe it's really been 3 years? 

 

Yeah, well...work keeps me pretty busy sometimes. And it's hard to watch movies and write about them when I travel. You're right though, I should try harder.

 

That's enough guys. Thanks. Thanks for coming by and celebrating 7dp's 3rd birthday, but I think that it's time you all left. In fact, I think it's well past that time.

To celebrate the 3rd birthday of 7dp, let's say that that is the reason I switched to 7dollarpopcorn.com. And since the new tv and dvd player will contribute to what I do here, lets say that those were gifts too. Now, if I only I made money here and could call it a business. Then instead of gifts, they'd be tax deductable business expenses.

Anyways, thanks for reading and sticking with me. And now, onto year number 4.

It occurs to me that I forgot to mention something. Unless you get the updates from the Facebook (and this might be a good time to ask yourself why aren't you), you may not have heard...

Well, I thought it was.

Enough about me. Lets talk about me.

I've made some subtle tweaks to the layout of 7dp. Nothing too big. For the most part I really like the 'rounders' layout that I use and I love the color scheme. But, I can't let it look like so many other blogs out there. So, made a couple changes.

It's wider now.

Yes, that's right! Marvel at the wideness of my page header and the new larger post area place thing! Unless you're using an 800x600 display! In that case, hate me for ruining your 7dp experience! The rest of you should do that marveling thing that I just mentioned.

I know it's a lot, but this is a rapidly changing world and here at 7dp Industries, inc, LLC we strive to keep pace. Well, we strive to keep Pace in the fridge because we really like salsa*. Mmm...nachos.

Of course, looking back at some of my posts, this means that I'm going to have to pay a little bit more attention to formatting, but, I'm ok with that.

So, what do you think of the new layout? Good? Bad? Completely ambivalent because you subscribe to the rss feed and never visit anyways? Was it even worth doing**?

*That might be the worst pun I've ever attempted. I would apologize if I wasn't so impressed by the sheer audacity*** of it.

***This might be a misuse of the word 'audacity'. I am, however, okay with that.

Happy Birthday 7 Dollar Popcorn!

January 10th marked the 2nd birthday of 7 Dollar Popcorn, do you know what that means? It means that, once again, I completely forgot about it. I had such lofty plans, too.

There'd be a cake.


And all of our friends would be there...


It would have been so much fun! We'd play pin the tail on the donkey. Watch some movies of course. It would have been great! But, of course, eventually the cake would run out...


Maybe not having a party was the right idea. Oh well, maybe next year!

Oops.

So, I was screwing around with my layout yesterday, just thinking about making some changes...and well, I screwed up and apparently made those changes. I will be attempting to get things back to normal, but it I can't, it may be some more changes before it's all done.

Yeah, I'm a big ol fuckup sometimes. Oh well.

Hi, I'm dreamrot, I'm your humble narrator.

What are you doing here?
Mostly, complaining. Occasionally recommending. Or the opposite. Basically, I'm just talking about movies.

Why?
Because I like movies. A lot.

What makes you so goddamn special to recommend or complain about movies?
Well, nothing I suppose. I'm just someone who watches a lot of movies. I have over 400 DVDs. I watch movies from around the world.

What kind of movies do you like?
Good ones

That was the original introduction to this little project back at the start of 2006. I was bored and fuming over the time I'd lost watching Peter Jackson's King Kong. Back then, I had no idea where this would take me. No idea what $7 Popcorn would become. Hell, I probably wouldn't have guessed that I'd stick with it for more than a few months. Another bloated corpse of a blog floating down this river we call the interweb.

Here we are though, 7dp is still going strong. A site centered on monsters of all kinds, horror, science fiction and low budget movies (with some forays into whatever else I feel like doing). I try to keep things lite around here. This is about movies, and movies are supposed to be fun. And, if this ever stops being fun...I'll stop it. Right then and there. I'll tell you what though, after 3 years and 500 posts, I still dig what I do here.

The Ratings

In the last half of 2008, I dropped the 1-10 rating scale. As much as I enjoyed it, it'd become a bit too cliche. I switched to a much more basic scale. Movies would either be Approved or Rejected.

Any movie receiving the 7dp Seal of Approval is a movie I would recommend to someone that I don't know very well.

However, I might still like a movie and reject it anyways. A movie that gets the 7dp Seal of Rejection is a movie that I wouldn't recommend to someone either at all or without knowing a lot about what they like.

Also Worth Noting:

I have a tendency to refer to actors by their character names. And not the name of the character they play in the movie I'm talking about. For example, Katee Sackhoff is referred to as Starbuck, Andy Griffith is Matlock and Mark Hamill is Luke, etc. Always. Some actors escape this treatment. I don't refer to Harrison Ford as Han or Indy or anything like that. Some actors transcend the roles they play. Some don't.

I like sharks and I like shark movies. In fact, I do a shark week every year to coincide with the Discovery Channel's  Shark Week programming. I think it's fun. In fact, I think theme weeks like that, in general, are fun. I'm always looking for a new theme week idea.
