I do enjoy a good werewolf movie.
I enjoy bad ones too, so this should be right up my alley.

Let Me In, maybe not.
It's no secret that I loved Let The Right One In. I thought it was an amazing movie and the book was amazing as well. So, it's with some trepidation that I approach the remake. It's just...not a film that needs to be remade. There is little that could be done to improve upon it.
And, I have been trying to give the remake a fair chance. I've been trying to keep an open mind, but...the trailer just...scares me. Not the way a horror movie should scare me, but the way you get scared when you know something is not going to be very good despite hoping it would be.

I wasn't exactly a Dennis Hopper fan
Dennis Hopper passed away. I wasn't a big fan. In fact, I can only think of two movies I liked him in. This was one of them.

Here's the thing
When I was a kid, I was fascinated by a few of things. Astronomy was a big one. I would go to the school library and just go through every book I could to look at pictures of galaxies and stars and planets and moons and...well, anything else that there might be pictures of. It was the same with the oceans. Whales, sharks, fish, dolphins, coral, it all amazed me. My grandma had a view master with a couple of Jacques Cousteau disks. I just loved looking at them. The other one was mythology. The Greek and Roman stories especially, and as I got older, Native American and Norse myths as well. It was the old Greek myths though that sparked my interest.
The fun thing is, I'm still as in awe of space, the oceans and mythology as my 8-year old self. So, it's probably a foregone conclusion that I will see the new Clash of the Titans.

I have no idea how I feel about this
Part of me is all like 'OMG! This looks so COOL!'
While the rest of me is kinda like 'Tim Burton and Johnny Depp. Again. Meh.'

I have to admit
I think Survival of the Dead is an utterly ridiculous title.
It doesn't mean that I don't want to see it though. I mean, it's Romero...and zombies. And, even though I may not have loved his last effort, I still want to see the new one.

I really don't like the voice over.
I know, I'm way behind the times on this one. You probably saw this an internet eternity ago (this past Tuesday), but it's hard for me to let something like this go past without mentioning it.
Now, I mostly liked The Machine Girl. Not the greatest movie ever made, but it was bizarre enough to be interesting and not so strange as to be unsettling. RoboGeisha looks like it make go quite a bit further, and I don't know how that makes me feel. It could be a gory, over-the-top good time or it could be trying to cram so much in that it collapses under it's own weight. The only thing I know for sure is that the trailer acts more like a highlight reel than a promo and the voice over is awful.

Was that really the same movie?
Occasionally, I'll watch a trailer for some movie that I've heard a little about and think to myself 'Damn that looks good. Time to go to Netflix.'
I get the movie home, watch it and think, again, to myself 'Was that trailer for the same movie that I just watched?'
For example...In Bruges
The trailer looks exciting and hilarious. The movie itself...not so much exciting. It's funny, there is a lot of very dark and dry humor in it, but it has an aura of melancholy that permeates the movie. The movie moves along at a slow pace, building and building throughout the story, finally coming to a crescendo at the end. The trailer makes it seem as though the movie is full of fast music and quick pacing. I'm not saying that it was a bad movie, I really kind of liked it. No, what I'm saying is that it wasn't the movie that I saw in the trailer. And that threw me off. Suddenly what I got wasn't what I expected. I felt cheated, betrayed.
I felt as though Colin Ferrell had persoanlly let me down.

One of the best books I've read this year...or any year
It was after seeing the trailer for Blindness that I decided to read the book. To be honest, I was blown away. A lot of fans of the book, from what I've read online, have expressed some trepidation about the adaptation. That a film couldn't capture the the emotion and brutality of the story. To them, I say bullshit. Reading the book, I could see it as a movie. And, I think it could really work well on film. I think that's why I'm so excited about it. I can really see it being an amazing movie.
I'm eternally hopeful when it comes to things like this.

Is Jason Statham the new Steven Seagal?

Is Jason Statham the new go-to guy for 'blow shit up' generic action movies? Is he Hollywood's new Seagal/Van Damme? It's okay if he is. I mean, someone has to be, right? It's just...I used to like his movies. He was so great in Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrells! I guess it's just a little dissapointing that he keeps just turning up in every cheesy action movie that comes out any more.

I have a good feeling about this one
Because I can't hate on everything, here's a trailer.
This, of course, is The Strangers. Perhaps it's not a remake of Ils, but looks quite similar and maybe even as good. Without having seen it yet, I can only hope.

A new trailer for you
It seems as though I'm always a bit behind the curve. By the time I'm putting a trailer up, it's usually been floating around for days and it's not really new and exciting anymore. The new trailer smell has worn off, so to speak.
Of course, that doesn't stop me, does it?
Hell no!
So, there you have it. The trailer for Neil Marshall's new movie, Doomsday. Neil Marshall, of course, the director of both Dog Soldiers and The Descent. Both were excellent movies, so I can't help but be excited about Doomsday...there's a sentence I never thought I'd say.

Machine Girl
Ok, I know everyone else posted about this earlier in the week (I would have as well if I hadn't had other things I wanted to post. Damn me for planning ahead!), so, I'm sure it's old news to you by now. For those of you who haven't seen it yet...enjoy!
Yakuza, Ninjas, Human Tempura, Finger Sushi, Flying Guillotine, and the Drill Bra! It just looks brilliantly bizarre.

Movie Trailers Rule!
So, here we are on a quiet Friday morning. Snow has been falling here. It's raining in LA from what I was told when I got a phone call at 8am. And the blogophone is lighting up with the release of the Speed Racer trailer. So, I'm going to go ahead and jump onto that band wagon as well.
I used to watch the cartoon with my brother, back in the early nineties when MTV was showing it. Admittedly, it looks very slick and cgi-oriented, but when you're trying to do something as crazy as a live action anime adaptation, I find that the more bizarre you make it, the better it works.
